I had the idea that I was going to have a beautiful post about the treasures which have become ours. The fact of the mater is that words just can't do them justice.
March 23, 2010 was the day that two countries got together and did something right. From that day forward we were forever united with the country of Taiwan. I remember reading (while still daydreaming about adopting) that once you adopt a Taiwanese child you become Taiwanese. They adopt you as part of their culture and people. I remember thinking that seemed a little weird or far fetched. It was a nice thought but not reality. As the days turn into weeks, the weeks turn into months and now the months have turned into a year I have come to find out that it is not so far fetched as I had believed. Somehow we became part of Taiwan forever. No we don't speak the language, no we don't eat their foods, we don't even understand many of their customs, but we do have two of their children. Two children who are "growing-up American" but will always be Taiwanese. In some strange way that makes us Taiwanese too.
A year has passed. Maylin is now 5. Next year she will go to "High See-cool. You can come to Momma!"she says. I am so afraid that if I close my eyes she will be right. I can't believe how much she has grown in just a few days... 365 to be exact.
Pierson has gained approximately 14lbs and grown 8 inches. I can't keep his ankles covered! All of his pants are high-waters! We need summer to come and stay! :)
Maylin's spunky
side has continued to thrive. From day one she was a silly silly little girl.
Pierson has continued to thrive. He is brave and independent, curious and sensitive. From the get-go he has been a snuggle bug.
No mistake, they are both just plain silly!
Looking from the previous picture to the following one brings tears to my eyes. Oh how they have grown. With the blink of an eye their faces have matured, their language has gone from 0-60 overnight, they have learned to trust us, and we have all learned to be a family.A family forever.
For their Gotcha Day I made them photo books (courtesy of Shutterfly). It has been so fun looking back over the year with them. So many memories to cherish for a lifetime. So many blessings to thank God for.

I relate to words failing...
Your pictures speak where the words can't! What growth, and I can see it both in their size, but also in the smiles that come from their souls!
Love you to pieces my sweet niece and nephew! Happy Gotcha Day!
