Carving Their First Pumpkin

I must admit I don't really "get" Halloween. However, it does have some fun traditions involved with it. So why not make the most of it right?
Last year we never got around to carving a pumpkin. I got ridiculed for this one. No one could seem to believe that an Art Teacher wouldn't have her kids carving pumpkins. I had no real excuse. We just never got around to it.
This year however we carved a pumpkin!
Preparation for the pumpkin massacre. The kids were excited about it. They had figured out Halloween's silly traditions. Last year they didn't know what they were missing. This year every time we passed a pumpkin patch they asked if we could get a big one!
They were a little less impressed by the 'guts' of the pumpkin.
They were each eager to try scooping out the insides but quickly passed the torch on to Daddy.

Pierson picked the shape of the eyes. Maylin picked the shape of the nose. And they both agreed together what the mouth should look like.
Watch out world Pierson has a knife in his hand! (with at little help from Daddy)
Maylin couldn't be left out. She had to have a hand in carving too. She is a bit more scary with a knife! If left to her own devices I am not sure what would have happened to our happy little pumpkin! ;o

Maybe next year we will let them each have their own pumpkin... Baby steps right? Over all they were excited to see the results and thrilled to put a candle in it.
Simple but beautiful!

Maybe next year we'll have to carve our pumpkins together. Kylie would LOVE to clean out some extra pumpkins. I don't get that sensory thing, but whatever...
And as far as I'm concerned, simple on a pumpkin is the way to go.
